Multi layer composite coating technology for balanced improvement of cutting tool performance on the ground

At the CIMT2025 China International Machine Tool Exhibition, Kennametal released a series of cutting tool products using KENGold multi-layer composite coating technology, which attracted industry attention. The coating is optimized for performance through a four layer structural design: the outermost layer of gold TiN coating is easy to identify the wear state, the second layer of Al2O3 coating provides thermal insulation protection with uniform nanostructures, the transition layer connects toughness and wear resistance, and the inner layer of TiCN coating enhances the ability to resist chipping. Based on this technology, CVD material KCP25C cutting tools can reduce unused edge waste in steel turning. PVD material KCU10B and other products can also achieve stable cutting in stainless steel and cast iron processing, which helps enterprises improve processing efficiency and control costs.
